The Whitehall Building - NYC








The original Whitehall Building, built in 1902-04 was twenty stories tall. Designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh it overlooks Battery Park. Originally built as a speculative office tower by the real estate developers Robert and William Chesebrough, the building was so successful, that plans were created for an addition almost immediately.


The thirty-one story addition, facing West Street, was constructed in 1908-10 as was named the Greater Whitehall. At the time this addition was the largest office structure in the city.
The buildings feature an elegant limestone facade, designed in a neo-Renaissance style with a traditional organization of base, shaft, and capital complements the original structure.
